Shopping

There are many shops in the village, which include three banks (one with 24hr cashpoint), post office, an art gallery, various mini supermarkets, butcher, pharmacy and a DIY shop, which sells a multitude of products. There is a weekly market every Friday morning, which sells fresh produce, clothes, plants etc

Apart from a few souvenir shops and the larger supermarkets which remain open all day most shops still observe the traditional Spanish business hours and close for a long lunch or siesta. Generally shops are open between 8.30am and 2pm and 5pm and 9pm.

Many of the smaller local shops still do not accept credit cards - the local economy is very cash based - and even the larger shops and supermarkets may ask to see your passport/photo id before accepting your card, so make sure that you don't get caught out!

If you wish to do any serious shopping outside these hours then you need to head for El Ingenio in Velez-Malaga, this is open Monday to Saturday 10am – 10pm. There is a large hypermarket, several designer shops, food halls and a cinema complex.
